Alice Walker Short Biography
Born on 9 February 1944 in Eatonton, Georgia, United States, Alice Malsenior Tallulah-Kate Walker is a novelist most known for her book The Color Purple.
Walker graduated from Sarah Lawrence College in 1965. She then moved to Mississippi and joined civil rights groups, here she also began teaching and writing.
In 1968, Walker published her first poetry book entitled Once. Two years later, she published her very first book entitled The Third Life of Grange Copeland.
Walker moved to California, and it was here that she wrote her most popular and well-known work, The Color Purple, which she published in 1982. The book was an insightful look into the treatment of African Americas throughout a period of time.
Walker won a Pulitzer Prize for The Color Purple, and it was adapted into a film in 1985. Oprah Winfrey and Quincy Jones also produced the story into a musical and was staged in 2004.
