Amelia Earhart Short Biography
Born on 24 July 1897 in Atchison, Kansas, U.S., Amelia Mary Earhart was the most famous aviatrix of all time. She was the first American aviation pioneer who flew solo across the Atlantic Ocean and had many other aviation records under her belt.
Sadly, she mysteriously disappeared on 2 July 1937 while flying over the Pacific Ocean (presumed dead on January 5, 1939).
Growing up, Amelia Earhart wasn’t a girly girl, she preferred basketball, climbing trees, and shooting rats with a 22 rifle.
On 28 December 1920, she attended an airshow where she tasted her first taste of the sky and got hooked into aviation… thanks to pilot Frank Hawks.
“By the time I had got two or three hundred feet off the ground, I knew I had to fly.”
Amelia Earhart
After that day, Amelia Earhart ‘needed to fly’ and 6 days later – in early 1921 – she took her first flying lessons and the rest is history.
