Christina Koch Short Biography

Born 29 January 1979, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States, Christina Hammock Koch is an American astronaut and engineer.

Koch graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering and Physics and a Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, in 2001 and 2002 respectively, from North Carolina State University.

Before joining NASA, Koch served as Station Chief of the American Samoa Observatory for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

Koch started her NASA training in 2013 and completed her training in July of 2015. 

Her first space flight would break records as the longest single spaceflight performed by a woman. Koch was launched into space on March 14, 2019, she was the flight engineer for Expedition 59, 60 and 61

She had spent 328-days in space, and on October 18, 2019, executed the very first all-female spacewalk. She returned to earth in February of 2020.

Koch was a recipient of the NASA Group Achievement Award in 2012. As of July 2020, She is still a NASA astronaut.
