Born on 11 November 1885 in San Gabriel, California, United States, George Smith Patton, Jr. was a famous general who served in World War II.
In 1943, he was successful in leading the U.S. Army to invade Sicily, and in 1944, he was also successful in leading the 3rd U.S. Army to capture several French towns.
In 1945, Patton was successful in liberating Germany from the Nazi regime.
Patton’s memoir, entitled War as I Knew It, was published posthumously, 2 years after his death in 1945.
In 1970, a film on Patton’s life was released. Directed by Franklin J. Schaffner, the film (Patton) went on to receive several Academy Awards.
