George Smith Patton, Jr. was a famous general who served in World War II.
Patton graduated from the
United States Military Academy at West Point in 1909. He was then made a second lieutenant in the cavalry.
In April 1941, he was made a commander of the 2nd Armored Division. After
Pearl Harbor, Patton organized a Desert Training Center.
In 1943, he was successful in leading the
U.S. Army to invade Sicily, and in 1944, he was also successful in leading the 3rd U.S. Army to capture several French towns.
