Jon Kabat-Zinn Short Biography

Born on 5 June 1944 in New York City, United States, Jon Kabat-Zinn is a professor of medicine and the creator of the Stress Reduction Clinic.

Kabat-Zinn graduated from Haverford College in 1964 and went on to obtain his Ph.D. in 1971 from MIT in molecular biology.

Kabat-Zinn was introduced to meditation by Philip Kapleau and was inspired enough by the introduction to study meditation for himself.

In 1979, Kabat-Zinn founded the Stress Reduction Clinic at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Since then, his concept of Mindful Yoga has spread all over the world.

His second book Wherever You Go, There You Are, published in 1994, went on to become a national bestseller.

Kabat-Zinn is also a board member for the Mind and Life Institute.
