Born on 17 February 1945 in Miami, Florida, United States, Leslie Calvin Brown, more commonly known as Les Brown, is a motivational speaker, former television host, and author.

Brown claimed that he was considered “educable mentally retarded” as a child. (Source)

His career started when he found work as a radio DJ. After his termination, he ran for election in the Ohio House of Representatives. He served as a member from 1976 – 1981.

After his service, he shifted his career and became a host on PBS. In 1993 he hosted his TV show The Les Brown Show, but the show went on hiatus 4 months later.

Brown was the recipient of a Golden Gavel from the Toastmasters International in 1994 for his achievement and leadership in communication.

In 2012 Brown formed Les Brown Enterprises Inc., to support himself in his career as a motivational speaker.

Les Brown also engages with many listeners through YouTube. He has been a keynote speaker, addressing several countries with audiences of up to 80,000 people.

He works as a trainer to would-be speakers and is known as one of the world’s most renowned motivational speakers.
