Marie Curie Short Biography

Born on 7 November 1867 in Warsaw, Poland, Maria Salomea Sklodowska, more famously known as Marie Curie, was a physicist who was famous for successfully isolating radium and was a recipient of two Nobel prizes in two different fields.

Curie worked as a teacher to help support her family when her father died. She moved to Paris in 1891, and it was there that she met many well-known physicists, and in 1894 Curie started working in Gabriel Lippmann‘s laboratory. 

In 1898, Curie and her husband Pierre Curie discovered polonium and radium. Five years later, in 1903, Curie received her doctorate of science, and in the same year, she won the Nobel prize for Physics. 

Curie was the first woman to teach at the Sorbonne when she was offered a professor position in 1906. 

Marie Curie’s is the first woman to win a Nobel Prize, she is also the first person to ever win the Nobel Prize twice. Her contributions to the scientific community have made her an inspiration to women and women in science all over the world.
