Born on 13 February 1947 in Chicago, Illinois, United States, Michael William Krzyzewski, also known as Coach K, is a college basketball coach.

Krzyzewski played basketball under Bob Knight in 1969, during this time, he was also training to become an officer in the army.

He served as an officer in the army from 1969-1974. In 1980, Krzyzewski was made head coach of Duke University‘s basketball team.

From the 1983-1984 season onwards, Krzyzewski led the Duke basketball team to at least 20 victories and a streak of 11 consecutive seasons.

In 1991 and 1992, Krzyzewski led Duke University to its first two national championships.

Aside from his career in coaching college basketball, Krzyzewski also coached the U.S. men’s national team in 2008, 2012, and 2016, earning Olympic gold in the games of those years.

Krzyzewski was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2001.
