In 1972, he launched Virgin Records with the money he had made from the record store that he had owned prior. He bought an estate and turned it into a recording studio and would lease the estate to artists who needed a place to record their music.
Virgin Records signed many bands that other labels thought was too controversial for their image such as The Sex Pistols.
In 1984, Branson launched Virgin Atlantic, his very own airline. He had been inspired to establish his airline when in 1982, a flight he was supposed to take had been canceled forcing Branson to charter his plane.
