Tim Peake Short Biography

Born 7 April 1972, in Chichester, United Kingdom, Timothy Nigel “Tim” Peake is a British astronaut and a military officer, he was the first official British astronaut to walk in space.

Peake graduated from the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in 1992 as an officer in the British Army Air Corps and went on to become a test pilot. He graduated from the Empire Test Pilots’ School in 2005 and had received his Bachelor of Science degree in flight dynamics in 2006.

Tim Peake was recruited into the European Space Agency on May 18, 2009, and moved to Germany where he began his basic training.

On December 15, 2015, Tim Peake became the first British ESA astronaut to visit the International Space Station. During his six-month stay, he drove a rover on a simulated Mars terrain from space.

During Peake’s time with ESA, he had participated in educational outreach programs, where more than 1.6 million students across Europe engaged in over 30 projects.

Peake became an aquanaut in 2012, aiding in the NEEMO 16 exploration mission.

In 2016 Tim Peake became the first man to run the London Marathon from space, which he participated by making use of the International Space Station’s treadmill.

During his time grounded, he served as Astronaut Operations Team Lead for ESA and in October 2019 took an unpaid leave of absence.

He has returned to the UK and currently works with the United Kingdom Space Agency, aiding in their education and outreach program.

Tim Peake has authored several books, including Hello, Is This Planet Earth?: My View from the International Space Station.
