Tom Hanks Short Biography

Born on 9 July 1956 in Concord, California, United States, Thomas J. Hanks is an actor who is best known for his roles in Saving Private Ryan, Forrest Gump, and Captain Phillips.

Hanks was a student at California State University, where he majored in drama and moved to New York City in the late 70s to find some acting gigs.

Hanks became known for his comedic abilities when he became a co-star on the show Bosom Buddies from 1980-1982.

In 1988, Hanks starred in Big, a comedy-drama wherein a little boy asks to be made big and becomes an adult overnight. Hanks’ work on Big went on to earn him a Golden Globe Award.

Hanks established his romantic leading man persona when he starred alongside Meg Ryan in Sleepless in Seattle in 1993.

Hanks won an Oscar for his role as Andrew Beckett in Philadelphia (1993), one of the first Hollywood movies to recognize AIDS.

A year later, Hank would go on to win the Oscar again for his role in Forrest Gump, earning him back to back Oscar wins for best leading man.
