William Shakespeare Short Biography

Baptized on 26 April 1564 in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, England, William Shakespeare, also known as “the Bard” was a writer, poet, and one of the world’s most popular dramatists.

Unlike his works, most of the details of Shakespeare’s life are uncertain. Shakespeare decided against going to college and instead got married at the age of 18. Not much is known about his life before he became a famous writer.

Shakespeare’s name first came onto the literary scene in 1592, a year later, his first printed work would be published. His poem entitled “Venus and Adonis” told the story of the goddess Venus and how she tried to seduce a man named Adonis.

Most historians believe that from 1594 and onwards Shakespeare was part of a theatrical company called Chamberlain’s Men. By this time, Shakespeare had made being a dramatist his full-time profession, a craft he continued to work on for the next 20 years.

Shakespeare and his numerous stories are known worldwide, these masterpieces have shaped English literature to this day. Shakespeare has expanded the English language by adding new words and phrases which we use in current day writing.
