Helen Keller Short Biography
Born on 27 June 1880, Helen Keller is a prominent American author, political activist, and lecturer.
She was the first graduate to overcome both the adversity of being blind and deaf to earn her Bachelor of Arts degree at Radcliffe College in 1904.
Helen Keller’s autobiography: The Story of My Life was published in 1903 which garnered Keller’s teacher, Anne Sullivan (and herself) national recognition.
In 1924, Keller joined the American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) where she worked for the next 40 years.
The foundation provided Keller the opportunity of a platform to reach and advocate for the needs of the blind globally.
After WWII, Helen Keller toured the world and met with notable leaders such as Winston Churchill, Jawaharlal Nehru, and Golda Meir.
In 1948, General Douglas MacArthur invited her to Japan to speak to Japan’s blind and disabled population. 2 million Japanese came out to see her.
