Richard had a tumultuous relationship with his father as a child and was made to leave the house at the age of 13 for his effeminate ways.

In 1951, Richard hit his first major break when his performance at a radio station earned him a contract with the record label RCA.
His career would not take off until 1955 when Richard sent a demo to Specialty Records. In September of the same year, he was contacted by the recording company and was sent to New Orleans.
Richard went on to record Tutti Frutti, which climbed the Billboard charts at No. 17.

Little Richard was among the 10 inductees of the inaugural class of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1986.
