John Winston Lennon Short Biography
Born on 9 October 1940 in Liverpool, England, John Winston Lennon was a songwriter, rhythm guitarist, and co-lead vocalist of The Beatles.
Lennon received his first guitar in 1956 at the age of 16. In the same year, he established the Quarrymen, a skiffle band. Lennon met Paul McCartney at their second gig and asked him to join the band. The Quarrymen would later be joined by George Harrison and Ringo Starr, later changing the band name to The Beatles.
Lennon had also been a student of Liverpool College of Art but was thrown out before his final year due to bad performance.
In 1962 the band’s first single ‘Love Me Do‘ was released to the public. The Lennon-McCartney songwriting partnership was soon established.
1963 was the year of Beatlemania in the UK, and in 1964 they made their U.S. debut. During the 2-year tour Lennon wrote 2 books; In His Own Write and A Spaniard in the Works.
In 1967 The Beatles performed Lennon’s All You Need Is Love as Britain’s contribution to the Our World satellite broadcast.
John Lennon has been an icon in the music industry for years and is responsible for writing some of the most profound and popular songs of the 20th century which heavily impacted the rise of pop culture.
