Elizabeth Gilbert Short Biography
Born on 18 July 1969 in Waterbury, Connecticut, United States, Elizabeth Gilbert is the author of the best-selling book turned movie; Eat, Pray, Love.
Gilbert was a political science student at New York University, where she would continue to write during her free time.
After graduating college, Gilbert found work in bars and diners in Philadelphia and used the money she had earned to fund her travels.
In 1993, Gilbert’s short story Pilgrims was published by Esquire magazine which then led to a job as a journalist for several magazines such as The New York Times Magazine and GQ.
Gilbert published an article entitled “The Muse of the Coyote Ugly Saloon” in 1997 which then became the inspiration for the film Coyote Ugly which premiered in 2000.
In 2006, Gilbert published Eat, Pray, Love, a memoir of her spiritual experience during her year-long travel around the world. The book was a number one bestseller and stayed on the bestseller list long after its debut.
Due to the amount of popularity the book had garnered, it was made into a movie with the same name and starred Julia Roberts, the movie premiered in 2010.
