Bill Fitch Short Biography
Born on 19 May 1932 in Davenport, Iowa, Bill Fitch is a US Marine Corp Drill Instructor and former NBA coach who was elected into the National Basketball Hall of Fame in 2019.
Before coaching professional basketball, Fitch coached college basketball at the University of Minnesota, Bowling Green State University, the University of North Dakota, and his alma mater, Coe College.
Larry Bird credited Bill Fitch in his book Drive: The Story of My Life, stating that Fitch has a powerful influence over his strong and determined work-ethics.
In 1996, Fitch was ranked one of the ten NBA coaches of all time after proving his ability to turn failing teams into winners. He is an incredible winning record of 944 (tenth in all-time number of victories). However, he also has a all-time losing record of 1,106 (just behind Lenny Wilkens).
